Germany Unveils Long-Term Plan to Build Europe’s Leading Army Force
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius revealed the plan during a press conference in Berlin, stating that the Bundeswehr has introduced its first comprehensive military strategy. The framework is designed to assess potential threat scenarios and significantly improve Germany’s long-term military readiness.
Pistorius said the expansion will involve increasing the number of active soldiers, reservists, and civilian personnel. He noted that the overall target is to reach at least 460,000 combat-ready personnel, combining both active-duty and reserve forces.
He also emphasized that Germany intends to take on greater responsibilities within NATO in the coming years, with a particular focus on strengthening air defense capabilities.
“Air defense for Germany and for NATO will be a key area for us,” he said, adding that future priorities will include interceptor drone systems, advanced air defense technologies, and capabilities to counter high-speed missile threats, including hypersonic weapons.
The strategy reflects a broader shift in Germany’s defense posture, with increased emphasis on long-term preparedness and collective European security commitments.
